New PC

I expect to get new PC and as a novice I'd like to verify the steps I should
follow BEFORE going on Internet. I assume mfgr will issue instructions for
hooking up monitor (I'll be using my old one) and HP printer and Scanner. I
understand after I then turn on PC under XP the PC should obtain the proper
drivers etc.. I should be getting firewall software and anti virus software
on PC.

Once that is done I can hook up my cable and follow any instructions they
may give. My concern on all this is to try to avoid getting any viruses
etc..

Am I overlooking anything?

Thank you for your input.

Just besure you installed you AV and firewall before connecting to the
internet, once connected update your AV software before doing anything
else.

If it's a new PC then it /should/ have XP SP2 on it, and the Windows
firewall will be turned on by default.....

If you read the original post you would have read that the poster has
another firewall already.
