new motherboard and CPU

D

Dennis Marko

I am already running Windows XP. I am going to install a
new motherboard and CPU. What can I do to keep my
existing C: drive intact without losing all my updates
that take forever to download. I am currently up to date
with all available updates. Also, how do I let my new
system know that all the programs on my D: drive are
already installed without having to re-install all of
them? My current motherboard is a Gigabyte GA-8SRX with
SiS 645 AGPset and a Pentium 4 1.6GHz CPU. I am
installing a ASUS P4P800S with Intel 848P chipset and a
Pentium 4 2.8GHz CPU. Any help here would be deeply
appreciated.

Dennis;
You will most likely need to perform a Repair Installation to properly
detect the new hardware unless new is identical to the old:

You will need to reinstall the updates.

There should be no problems with applications or data, back-up
important data just in case.
