I've noticed recently that new email messages aren't showing up in my inbox.
I know they exist because I checked them online at work off the provider
server on the internet. I found them in the Search folder Unread Messages.
What gives? Why aren't they going to my inbox directly as usual. I don't know
how to change that default. Could I have done it accidentally?

Unread Mail is not a real folder. It is a search folder and it will find
all of the unread messages in your delivery location no matter what folder
they're in. If you see the messages in Unread Mail, you'll also see listed
the name of the folder they're in. If you can see them in Unread Mail, then
Outlook DID download them. If Unread Mail shows they're in Inbox, and you
can see them while in Inbox, then either you're not sorting Inbox by the
Received date or you have a filter in the INbox that is hiding them.

Thank you, Brian. I understand about the search folder now. I do have them in
order by date received. I don't know how to set a filter. Perhaps I did it
inadvertently. How would I look to see if there are filters?

Try starting Outlook once with the /cleanviews command switch.
Start>Run>outlook.exe /cleanviews
