networking XP to 98

Dan Bilger

I have the same problem as Randall. I have a computer
running Windows XP and another running Windows 98 SE
connected through a D-Link DI-604 Router. Both can access
the Internet through High Speed Modem and both can access
the printer on my XP machine. However I cannot acces the
other machine from either machine. There is no file
sharing even though I have set both up for file sharing.
HELP....

It worked for me. I have a win95, win98, win2k and a win
xp all networked wireless through a residential gateway.
I can share files and printers with no problem thanks to
the above site. Hope this helps.

I'm in the same boat! XP Pro on one PC, 98 on another
and 2000 on another. Just got XP installed and the XP PC
can see both the 98 and 2k PC but can't access the 98 PC.
The 98 PC can't see the XP PC. The 2k PC can see and
access both the others!!! Befor installing XP, all of
them could access each other.

I have NetBEUI installed and NetBIOS enabled on all 3. I
tried removing it from the 98 PC adn as expected,
couldn't see it with the 2k PC anymore. Drive's me
nuts. I can see it with the XP PC but get a "network
path not found" message. Any ideas?

This is interesting. I was not able to get NetBEUI running with XP. It
is not one of the choices offered when you set up the network. I
switched everything over to TCP/IP. I didn't want to do this because I
felt it was more secure to do my intranet shares on NetBEUI rather than
on TCP/IP that was accessing the internet.
