XP and Win 98: Cannot network after trying everything.

Hello:

I have an XP machine and a 98 machine connected to a
wireless router. The XP machine can successfully see the
shared files on the 98 machine, but the XP machine doesn't
show up at all in the 98 machine's network neighborhood.
When I ping the XP's computer name from the 98 machine, it
associates the correct IP address with the computer name,
but does not successfully complete the ping. The username
and password I am using to log on to the 98 machine
matches the username and password that I have set up as a
user on the XP machine. File and Printer sharing is
installed on both. TCP/IP is installed on both. Access to
the internet through the router works fine on both
machines. Yet I cannot access the XP machine from the 98
Machine. Please offer any insight you may have.

Thank you.

I suggest you power down both machines and then reboot
the router.

I can't explain why, but it worked for me when I had the
same problem.

Good luck.

Turn off the XP's default FireWall (ICF).

On the XP machine, did you share the drive or folder which
you would like to share. Additionally, under the security
tab you must add the Win 98 user name and then assign the
permissions.

I know this works with XP Professional

Right click the folder
