I had used Nero 7 a while ago - all was OK. Today when I try to open
Nero Burning Rom I get a bugcheck and the " Do you want to send to
Microsoft" box. Other Nero files work OK. So, I did a repair - Windows
XP reports that it cannot find a dll in C:Prg Files\Common ... it IS
there. I shutdown and booted to another XP partition (E:) and Nero 7
still works fine over there. Made my DVD copy and then I copied the
E:\Prg Files\ common....\Ahead folder to the C:\Prg Files\
common....\Ahead folder. Booted to c - Tried Nero 7 - same error. Repair
= same error. Now I know the file is good - it's what I have on the
other partition... registry hosed ?? so I uninstalled Nero. Reboot.
Installed it - same error. Uninstalled and shutdown. Installed an OEM
Version of Nero 6 (Express) - it works fine.

About the Nero problem ... I'm thinking that I did some update recently
that is causing the problem and just hadn't noticed since I hadn't used
Nero. Anyone else having a problem with Nero ?

Getting frustrated - I WAS on E for a year and reinstalled to C a few
weeks ago to " clean up" Windows and with problems it's kinda defeating
the whole reason for doing it - I shoulda just stayed on E !! ( Luckily
I hadn't installed X64 on E yet and can still get to old data)

When you do a repair, it reverts the installation back to original status
when you received the pc, now you have to re-apply service packs and
re-install all programs that you installed after you received the pc. next
time do backups of your system, and do a bit more research before you do a
repair install, the OS booted ok, and things were accessible, no repair was
needed. and more than likely you didn't get all the old files out first, so
the re-install on nero 7 wouldn't work.

Sorry I didn't specify -
I did a repair of NERO - not of XP
Control Panel - add/remove - Nero - Change - repair

Contact the Author of the program you are having a problem with for best
results.

Could be caused by file system errors. Run CHKDSK /F on the problem drive.

Do a complete removal of nero, ie (uninstall-reboot-remove the old folder for
nero-reboot-reinstall nero) I know it's a pain, but sometimes not removing
the folder will leave files that will not be overwritten, when
reinstalling/repair.

if this doesn't work, you will have to do some research for left behind
files of NERO that remain in your registry after uninstalling

Hey there are several updates to Nero on the web site. They are for
added features and bug fixes. Give it a try. The downloads are
actually a complete install.

Uninstall Nero7 and reboot, run this Nero cleaup tool and reboot, does the
reinstall work now?

Not sure of the exact fix, but I did all of the above and reinstalled
and it's now working fine. I did get an error when I ran the "Clean
Tool" but it did then continue. Probably a few errors because I manually
deleted a lot of stuff in the registry first.
Thanks to everyone.

I'm glad all is well and thanks for the update!

Not yet, Mike ... stay tuned ...
So THEN from inside Nero, I click on UPDATE - and I get FTP,HTTP errors
( I even turned OFF my firewall - still fails). OK- I manually go to the
Ahead website and download the 122mb update. Run it and I get a message
" This installer is incompatible with the currently installed version of
Nero - Please uninstall the application and try this again at a later
time" - ARGGGHHH. Maybe I could have run this first and used my s/n
??? I guess I'll use that uninstall app again, huh ? I'll let you know
how it goes ( I would ask Ahead about the UPDATE error and if I could
have installed the download , but they haven't responded to my original
email from last week).

Bobb,

I had the same problem with the update. What I did was uninstall
Nero 7 using add/remove. Then I rebooted and installed the download.
It remembered my serial number from the version I uninstalled and then
when I installed the download everything was fine.

Jerry

I tried that - and you're right it did remember my s/n - but it didn't
work for me. Only after I ran the cleaner did it "forget" my info and
then after a new install it started working. I wrote them ( Nero.com)
a nasty note in the feedback section stating that thery need to update
that page with the "how-to's" since everyone there would be doing the
same thing. It's crazy - I dload a 122mb file and it's missing the help
files - cuz they are too big ? TELL ME THAT UPFRONT and I'll d'load them
while I'm there - at the same time. It's only "too big" if I'm on a
dialup - and if I am ,122mb will take me a week ! Give me a link on the
page that states " Download all updates? " and let it rip.
