They probably don't exist. Your laptop is designed for Windows Vista and
that's it. I hope you didn't format it yet. And even if you manage to find
drivers for XP, you should still create the Vista restoration CDs if they
didn't come with the laptop to make sure, there must be a utility on your
laptop to do that.

If he has reformatted the hard drive, I'm sure that HP will sell him (for a
price) a set of installation disks.
If the laptop originally came with Vista, then that is the OS it's designed
to work with.
I don't understand what the problem is with Vista - one of my 2 PCs has it
with no problems.
Regards Mike.

They may not exist. Many new laptops don't have drivers for XP.

But the way to find out is to contact HP and ask them.

Mike, this battle will be ongoing for years.

I also have a laptop and desktop with Vista. Personally I don't like it but
am forced to use it. I feel that for most people it is a resource hog,
using "pretty" for no obvious reason. When I turn on a computer I want it
to boot fast, be stable and run the programs I ask it to run and be
compatible with the devices I have. After all the OS is only to support the
production programs, not to be pretty. I have a screensaver for that.

My issues are extremely slow printing (XP boxes with slower processors work
great under identical setups) that I haven't found an answer to yet (posted
in vista.print_fax_scan newsgroup), not being able to have different folders
(of the same type) come up and maintain different settings and a few of the
other "tweaks" that I have performed in XP not being able to be performed in
Vista. There is a large learning curve with Vista in getting it to do
exactly what you want and then there is the program and device
incompatibility issue that many are having. I wasn't able to get my
mainstay of Office '97 to install 100% correctly so I have to have Office
2003 & 2007 as my primary products on those machines for teaching duties
(yes I still have students that want to learn Word '97.) I also haven't
been able to get my color laser printer, 2 years old, to work with Vista yet
as the manufacturer doesn't have Vista drivers yet (coming soon) and the XP
drivers don't work.

So that being said, back to the Vista newsgroups to attempt to find out
answers to my issues so I can be a happy Vista user.

Hi!
They may not exist. Many new laptops don't have drivers for XP.

Every time I hear this I want to scream. What the manufacturer *supports*
the machine with is one thing. What is possible is something else entirely.
Just about every computer assembled today contains common chips and designs
that are found in many different computers. And if the manufacturer doesn't
provide the software you want, chances are very good that the actual IC
manufacturer *will*.

Yes, you'll be doing it at your own risk and you might invalidate any
software warranty or technical support.
Yes, there are some oddball pieces of hardware that won't work. Hardware
that behaves this way is not only rare, but also poorly designed,
implemented and supported.
Yes, you should go through the Device Manager while the thing is running
Vista and write down the installed hardware so you have some idea of what to
look for in the way of drivers.
Yes, you should have restore discs made before doing this...maybe you will
want Vista some day?
But the way to find out is to contact HP and ask them.

No, it isn't. The original poster should save themselves the trouble if they
at all can. HP's technical support will be useless in all likelihood.
