Need to log on before network printing

I'm not sure what has changed (or what I have changed) recently, but I used
to be able to print from either of my two WiFi--equipped laptops to either of
the two printers attached to my networked desktop as long as the desktop was
turned on.
Now, though, I can no longer do so. If I want to print a document from my
laptop, I must first go to "My Network Places", then "view workgroup
computers", click on my desktop computer, and then enter my user ID--in this
case "administrator"--in order for the document I'm sending to print. Can
anyone tell me how to avoid all these steps and just go back to what I used
to have? It used to be that when I clicked on print I'd get a dialog box
showing the two printers attached to my desktop. Selecting one was all I had
to do to start the remote printing job.

You likely changed user name/ password on the systems in question. Make
sure the same username/password combo is installed on all the PC's in
question.
