Need some Help - About:Blank hijack

T

TJ

Hi Guys,

Does anyone know a simple way of getting rid of About:Blank from
Internet Explorer.
Windows 98

I tried with spybot search and Destroy, but no luck. Should I try a
computer repair shop or can I fix it myself ?

Any help will be truly appreciated.

Run "CWShredder" > http://aumha.org/downloads/cwshredder.zip
Close all Windows and running applications, unzip the executable, double-click
on the file and follow the prompts.

Please post back your findings.

CWShredder is not being updated and not able to kill the new versions of
"About Blank"
The latest version of Ad-Aware, the SE version, is reported to be working
for this problem.
for Ad-AwareSE, go to www.lavasoftusa.com or www.lavasoft.de
As does SpyBot Search & Destroy - HijackThis & others.
The gist of my post was a starting point for the original poster.
You will note in my reply post that I requested a follow-up post.

Hi Silj,
Thanks for the reply.

I just ran "CWShredder" but it is still there.
"CWShredder" scanned my computer and said it was clean, but the-
About:Blank still shows up in the internet explorer.

Is there any other things I can try ?

Thanks,

John

Here's what I did:
go here and download Adaware Away: http://www.adwareaway.com/

follow the direction on this page:
http://www.adwareaway.com/aboutblank.htm
be sure to do variant 4 and 5

In my case the homepage option in IE was still grayed out, so I had to
go here:
http://www.mvps.org/winhelp2002/unwanted.htm

and download and execute the UnlockHomePage.reg and RepairTabs.reg,
you'll find these in the "Various Registry Fixes" section on the
page.

Good Luck

Hi, John
Thanks for the report back but sorry to hear the problem persists.

Lets cut straight to the chase and have you run "HijackThis".
FAQ and download here: http://mvps.org/winhelp2002/unwanted.htm

Hi guys,

I just ran Ad-Aware SE Personal and it gave me a list of things, but I
dont know which ones I should delete.

I deleted 3 that had Hijack attempt.
Should I delete all the malaware listings ?

Thanks again,

John.

Best bet, John - go to Lavasoft Support for help what to delete and what to keep.
The new build scans a lot more than the previous one.
Visit Lavasoft here: http://www.lavasoftsupport.com
