Need software that will run MVox Speakerphone

(Sorry, where are good newsgroups (or other places :( ) to post this?
Googling found nothing afaict. Except a couple other people looking
for the same thing.)

MVox speakerphone is still sold but now, there's no way to get the
software. Instead of the software being on the CD, the included CD
gives a 3 page manual with a web address, at www.mvox.com , but that
page is gone now.**

**I THOUGHT OF LOOKING IN THE WAYBACK MACHINE, AND FIGURED IT WOULD
PROBABLY HAVE THE WEBPAGE, BUT SURELY NOT THE FILES TO BE DOWNLOADED,
because files are not a webpage. BUT!!!!! IT HAD NOT ONLY THE PAGES,
BUT THE PROGRAM i WANTED, WHICH IS DL'D AND INSTALLED AND WORKING, SO
i"m POSTING ONLY TO TELL YOU HOW GREAT THE WAYBACK MACHINE IS. The
original page apparently had not existed since August 2006***!

IT APPEARS TO HAVE THE INSTALLATION GUIDE AND OWNERS MANUAL TOO, but
they were very short, not really needed, and they were on the mini-cd.

web.archive.org !!!

***Although that one couldn't be found. But the one from May 2006
could be, and there were earlier ones too that were probably good.

It says it's not compatible with Vista, and doesn't say anything about
7, but maybe that just means the software and not the USB device.

The rest was written already:

So I'm asking you all if you have it or something that will work.

I need software that would work for an MVox USB Speakerphone. It's
called MVOX Volume Wizard, although any other MVOX software might do
the same thing, or software from another company.

It's supposed to switch the speaker function from the little USB
speakerphone to my regular speakers. Any software that did this would
be great to have. The speakerphone and its microphone work great,
and even the speaker is very good for its size, but not as good as
much bigger stereo speakers.

I bought it NIB and it has an MVox mini-CD, but the CD doesn't have
the software!

This is the item, still for sale on Amazon and probably elsewhere:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0007W2E64/ref=cm_rdp_product
But it too won't have the software, because the CD doesn't have it, I
think.

**It forwards me to a web-hosting site which says it doesn't host it
(anymore, I suppose) I can probably find the original webpage on the
wayback machine, but that won't allow me to download, will it?

Using web.archive.org, I can see a couple products listed, and
for each one, it states at the bottom -

"Note: No driver required for Windows 98SE, ME, 2000, XP, MAC OS9, and OS X"

That implies it uses a standard USB Audio Class definition. As long
as your computer has USB drivers, then that device should be picked up.
You may need to go into the "Sound and Audio Devices" control panel,
and enable it as a source of input and output (two entries). If you have
both a sound card, and that MVOX speakerphone, that would count as two
sound devices, and you'd need the Sound control panel, to enable the
one you want to use.

I wasn't able to find any entries in the USB.ids listing for MVOX.
Otherwise, I would have used that angle. to look for drivers.
But first, I'd take the web site advice at face value, and
see if the only missing step to making it working, is selecting
the device in the control panel.

Thanks.

I have Mvox Volume Wizard working now, a small program that will set
speaker and mike levels for this device, and it lets me switch from
the speakerphone speaker to the regular speakers (which it calls
C-media Wave Device), with just one click. I hoped that would leave
the microphone part of it still working, but it doesn't**. Still,
when I was testing it with Skype testing a couple days ago, I didnt'
even notice that it was the little speaker and not the big ones, so it
might be fine. Anyhow, it's the first good microphone I've had, and
I love the Wayback Machine, http://web.archive.org .

**Maybe someday I'll figure out how to do that.

Given what you stated above, I suspect the mic stops working because you've
changed the sound device it's using. Plug a mic into the sound card mic
input and set the mixer properly and I suspect it'd work then.

Yes, I guess you're right. Thank you.

The trouble is that this is the first mike I've had that has sounded
good. But other than when I'm making a phone call, I don't need the
microphone anyhow, and when I *am* making a phonecall, I can use the
little speakerphone speaker, so I guess it won't really be a problem.

Thanks.
