Driver Problem.

I've had a Conexant PCI 56K speakerphone modem for quite a while that
worked quite well, but when I installed XP it wouldn't accept the
driver I'd used with my ME install and installed a "Generic" modem
driver. It worked well, except I couldn't use the speaker phone
option. I could never find a true XP driver for this modem, but just
a few days ago I found a driver that was originally written for
Win2000 that had a note that it worked well with XP. The problem is,
XP won't let me use it. Every time I install this driver, XP detects
the modem and re-installs the Generic version. So, at this point, I
don't know if the new driver will allow all of the functions of my
modem or not. Is there a way to prevent XP from installing the
Generic Driver? I've tried all of the options available in Device
Driver, "Update", "Disable" & "Uninstall" with no joy.

Modem drivers can be tricky to install but you must install the correct
driver for your modem. Installing the correct driver will prevent Windows XP
from using any other non-XP drivers. I Googled for Win XP drivers and got
lots of results. This might be the correct one:

I really appreciate your effort, but I'm a little mind boggled in that
I googled (and several other search engines) and didn't get any
returns for an exact XP driver for the modem in question. Thanks.

(2nd Post) I downloaded the driver, but when I reboot, XP deletes it
and loads the Generic Driver. ??

You got a lot of use out of your modem but now it is time to get one
that is supported in the operating system you are running. Uninstall
the old one and buy a new one. You can get a decent PCI modem for
$25USD or less. Not all hardware is supported by all operating systems
and XP is a different operating system than Windows ME.
