Need Help - Laptop No Sound Playback Device

Just completed installing a new hard drive and Windows XP on a friends
Gateway 7422GX laptop.

Everything is working fine except no sound - no sound playback device listed
under the Audio tab in "Sound and Audio Devices Properties".

Suggestions please.

Follow Up:

Yes, I did download & install the chipset driver from Gateway for this
computer.

The driver for the Multimedia Audio Controller is not there!!
