My Microphone seems to be on perminately. Want to turn if off.

seems like my microphone is on perminately now. I can hear myself through the
mic, even when I don't want too. All i'm getting is sound from my mic. I want
to make it so it's not like that anymore. seems to be my mic and headphone
set. I don't have the other piece, however, I've never had this problem
before, for the love of god someone help me. please.

Mute the Microphone until you need to use it.

Start > Control Panel > Sounds, Speech and Audio Devices > Sounds and Audio
Devices > Advanced...

Under Microphone check the box that says Mute.

If Microphone isn't listed:
In the same window, click Option > Properties
In the list that says "Show the following volume controls:" check the box
beside Microphone.

Just note that any voice recongnition software that runs on VOX (Voice
Activated operation) may not function with the microphone muted.

wow, thanks, I just curious, as to why it's only did this once before, and I
apparently fixed it, but I don't know how. I've not had any trouble with it
until today. I was using a program that uses flash for awhile....and then I
looked and it showed like my mic was on full blast and stuff...and could not
get it to go down. just seemed weird .... is there any other reasons. I was
using winamp today and downloaded shoutcast, could that be another possible
reason?

Hi Norm, check to make sure you don't have a back door trojan. Some of them
will try to access your web cam and microphone.

ahhh yes...well I will most definately try to check for a virus. Thanks very
much. i am still looking for another possiblity, so, if anyone has anything,
I'm all ears.
