help with phone dialer, modem and external microphone

Is there a way to set up the phone dialer with a microphone plugged
into my external mic port on the front of the computer? The OEM modem card
does not have a mic input jack, just a connection for the phone line.

Such a setup would then be like a speaker phone.

Everything seems to work re: the dialer - dials a number and connects but
when I speak into the mic - nothing is heard at the other end. the mic is
working because I can hear my voice through the computer speakers - I've
tweaked all the options I can think of in the dialer software but it seems
the modem doesn't
recognize or isn't connected to the external microphone.

I'm new at all this stuff so any help is appreciated.

thanks.

You will need software that supports that feature. It is provided with
modems that are intended to be used like that.

You have to have a modem that supports this.

thanks - what kind of modem should I be looking for? Is there a specific
name or set of specifications (that side panel stuff)?

One that comes with telephone answering software. A good sign is one
that comes with a headset and boom mic. But if you are going to use it
for tel-marketing, may the Gods pull your toes at night while you try
to sleep.

Sorry I don't have any recommendations for current ones. I used to use
a USR Robotics external modem with speaker phone and TalkWorks Pro.
Both are discontinued.
