My Internet Explorer

I have a problem in my internet explorer, my graphics, images, layouts and
background are missing and sometimes it is displayed this phrase "This pages
cannot be displayed and a error 404". I have also a window counterfieting in
my task bar. What should I do to fix this problem? Is there a free software
that I could use? I do the basic support to solve but nothing happens.
Im running window XP.
