Multiple slide master issue

I often work with groups that have created custom templates for their
meetings as a PPT. Typically they will have a title slide, content slide with
a brand identifier graphic treatment, and a alternate content slide that has
the background only for slides with too much information. Right now I am
saving the PPT as a template file - includes title and both content slides -
which gives me the title and first content slide when I create presentations.
In order to insert the alternate plain background, I am saving it as a
picture, then inserting it as a picture background on those slide only. Any
way I can have a choice of two content background from the creation of the
presentation?

It sounds like your might be just creating a blank template with some customized
slides. Are you creating the Slide Master and the Title Master while in View >
Master? Are you saving the file as a template while still in that View?

Depending on the version of PowerPoint, you can have multiple templates. See
