After using WinMe for a couple of years and being used to how fast it starts
up, I'm now using Win2k pro but it takes 5 minutes to start! I'm not on a
network or anything, just a simple home user. I've noticed in the task mgr
there are a ton of processes listed there. Do I absolutely need all those
things running? I appreciate the previous posts on 3rd party control panel
apps, I'm just wondering what's safe to disable for a simple home user. Any
help in making it load faster would be appreciated, I'm about ready to go
back to WinMe. Thanks,

Mike

It may be as a result of applications starting up, from start folder amongst
other places.
Check your task bar - by the clock - many apps have an option to prevent
auto start
Other than that you can download msconfig
http://www.perfectdrivers.com/howto/msconfig.html
and disable start up items there. - ensure you correctly identify apps to
stop.
I wouldnt advise stopping proccesses in task mgr unless you know exactly
what you are doing. You cannot prevent them loading from there anyway.
Also how much memory, win2k is best with 512mb.
I assume you've also run winupdate?
