Hi,

I'm going to be putting Win2K through it's paces as a home OS for a couple
weeks. I'm formerly (and may be again) a stalwart WinME user (stop
laughing; a little chopping here and there and it's great :). Anyways,
I've already just clean-installed it once (of a few times until I get
settled in to the config I want) and I already have a couple questions...

1)
When I installed it vanilla I ended up with Admin, <my name>, and Guest
accounts. Anyway to just tell it I'm the only user and not have to
backfill, delete, and put up with User directory crap, etc.?

2)
Even though I've *almost* resigned myself to duct-taping some hack with a
..bat file and pkunzip.exe into an OpenWith, is there any way of getting
native basic .ZIP functionality? (will throwing in the .dll from WinME
work?). Not really interested in third-party stuff unless it's free (of
course) and as seamless as WinME's implementation.

3)
Even though shutdown is really really fast, on startup, even after the
desktop screen & icons come up, my HD keeps chattering away for almost
another full minute...... wth?

4)
Anybody else wanna clout somebody at Mozilla over the head for further
stupidifying Firefox's Preferences/Options in 1.0 ? (I can't find the
program directories and I hate putting caches and user files on C:)

Thanks

* Control Panel|Users and Passwords, then uncheck the box for "Users must
enter a user name and password to use this computer", restart for effect.

tends to negate the "free" paramater, somewhat :)
(I'm only semi-evil... if I like it I'll buy a copy, if it sucks too much for
my usage habits, I'm back to WinMe)

512MB and I've got a 1G perm swapfile on another. OS partition has been
defragged... I'm looking into modifying all those startup services.

thx

Be sure you've properly backed up the registry before hand.

Multitasking at work. Quite a few services are still starting while the
user is logging in.

Despite a usual "cowboy" attitude towards this stuff I might just take that
advice; thanks :)
