MSOOBE

Hi.

First of all I would like to say sorry if this has been asked before, but I
am ugently after some help and havent looked through the other posts.

Back in 2007 we got Windows XP but it was a bad copy. We purchased the
online license and received the CD and code. All good. Then on Sunday my
cousin rang me to say his pc wouldnt load up. It just kept booting up and
getting to the Windows XP booting screen, then rebooted and kept doing this.
I managed to get Windows re-installed using the repair part of the set up
process and all went well. Until logging on.....

It came up saying windows wasnt validated and to click here to do this. So I
did. Then it came up with msoobe.exe memory error. Ok to continue or cancel
to debug.

Activate Windows: msoobe.exe - Application Error
The instruction at "0x604a296e" referenced memory at "0x00000000". The
memory could not be "read".

By pressing either of this just logs you off. I can get into safemode but i
don't know whats wrong with it. I can't install any Cd's to see if its a
virus and i cant get onto safemode with networking because it says it isnt
validated. I thought I had sorted the issue but I'm stuck!

Any help would be very much appreciated!

By "bad copy" are we to understand that it was not a legal copy of Windows?

Your only recourse is a clean install with a legal copy of Windows.
Using the same install CD with a legal product key will not help.

No it wasnt legal but it came with the PC. We didnt know it was an illegal
copy until it said it needed activating so we purchased a licence and the CD
arrived. The CD i used last night was the legal copy we received from
microsoft. I chose the repair option on the CD and this is the outcome. So
are you saying the only option I have is a clean install and there is way
around the issue?

"So are you saying the only option I have is a clean install and there
is way around the issue?"

Correct: Since your original copy of Windows was not legal, there's no
way to know for sure exactly what was installed.
