Movie Maker has stopped working...

I have converted an old VCR tape of our family movies to a number of
avi files using Pinnicle Dazzle and AutoGK. The resulting avi file
keeps crashing Movie Maker. I can import the files, but if I try to
drag them into the video timeline, I get an error and the program
closes out.

The error I get is simply:

Windows Movie Maker has stopped working
Windows is collecting more information about the problem
This might take several minutes.

Sometimes it reboots the program, but the result is always the same.
I have tried to break the file down to small pieces. I am down to
about avi files that are a little over 700 Mb.

Any ideas what is causing this?

Maybe you have a codec issue. The following
free utility can identify the codec an .avi file was
created with:
