when importing avi files to vista movie maker

I bought this laptop and it came with vista movie maker.
But when I import to collections a avi file it does not bring over the
audio/sound?
i had also downloaded movie maker 2.6 and it works on old version but i
cannot burn to dvd.
what do i need to fix movie maker 6.2 on vista so my avi files also import
the audio?
i already also downloaded k-lite codec pack which did fix the audio for avi
on Windows media player but did not fix it for movie maker 6.-vista.
is there something from windows to fix this?

Vista has the same issues with codecs that MM2.1 in XP has.... if files
don't work, you need to do conversions. See the Import Movie Source Files
section of my website.
