Movie Maker 2.1 error message; Sony DCR-SR90; capture device

I've just bought a Sony DCR-SR90 hard disk video camera. I can connect it to
my XP computer via USB 2.0 and copy the .mpg files across ok. Then I get
stuck.

1. If I try to import an .mpg clip to Moviemaker 2.1 it starts ok but then
fails giving this error message "I:\MP_ROOT\100PNV01\M2U00036.MPG could not
be imported. An interface has too many methods to fire events from"
(strangled ending).
2. Moviemaker does not acknowledge the DCR-90 as a capture device, even
though I can see it on my XP File Manager.

If I can fix one of these two problems, I'll be off and running wityh
Moviemaker. I would be most grateful for some advice.

Thank you John. I see now that Moviemaker cannot handle MPEG2 files
properly. I have bought Adobe Premiere 2.0 which imports and handles these
files ok. Therefore, sadly, I am making an unusual departure from Microsoft
and doing my Speilberg number with Adobe. But your advice was helpful, got
me understanding a bit more about the field and most importantly, got me
going. Regards Tony.

You're welcome.

And of course...you could always convert
the files to a different format as explained
in the article:
