Movie maker not recognizing Sony DCR-TRV340

Robin

Hi,
Moviemaker won't recognise my Sony DCR-TRV340 Digital 8
camera when I connect it using USB (2.0) and click MM's
Record feature. It recognizes the audio as a "USB audio
device" not as audio from my cam and the video is greyed
out.
How do I get this working?

Hi Robin --

It sounds like you need to install the USB drivers for your device....Here's
what I did to get capture working for me with a Sony TRV-340 (PAL) Digi 8
camera and a clean XPSP2 PC:

1. First, download the USB drivers for the DCR TRV-340 from Sony's product
support website:
http://ciscdb.sel.sony.com/perl/mod...0&session_id=96bdc7fc9ba7ef33dd6e383c1f21547b
2. Ensure that your camera is NOT connected to the PC!!!!
3. Unpack the drivers provided by Sony, and run the setup.exe to install
them. (A reboot may be required.)
4. After the installation (and reboot), attach your camera via USB to your
PC and turn it on in "Player" mode.
5. Confirm your drivers are correctly installed by doing the following:
a. Choose "Start" | Right-click on "My Computer" | Choose "Manage" |
"Device Manager" -- Look for the "Imaging devices" category, and confirm
that you have a "Sony Digital Imaging Device" listed.
6. Launch Movie Maker
7. Choose "File" / "Capture Video" --> In the "Video Capture Wizard", you
should now see the "Sony Digital Imaging Device" icon offered for video
capture, as well as the "Sony Digital Imaging Audio" device in the drop-down
for Audio Capture.

Hope This Helps!
