I have a Sony DCR-TRV350 and want to transfer video to the computer
(Windows XP Home Edition). I have been succesful in transfering the video,
but not the audio. At first I tried using the software that came with the
camera, ImageMixer v1.5, but the audio driver would fail. Then I tried
Movie Maker 2, but again, there was no audio when I tried to capture the
video. Can you please help?

Hello there,

What do you mean, exactly, when you said the audio driver would fail. What
happened? was there a message on screen?

Does your audio work in all other respects? Can you hear it?, Can you record
audio using any other software.

If the answer is no to any of the above have you taken a look at the device
manager to see if there is a device conflict or other issue that is stopping
your audio card from working.

Were you using an iLink cable and card when you do the capture. If you used USB
I believe you will find that your camera does not supply audio on the USB port
(which is meant for the capture of stills)

When I was installing the audio drive, I received the following "...Sony Digital Imaging Audio has not passed Windows Logo testing to verify it's compatibility with Windows XP."

I do have sound on the camera when I play the video back, and also if I plug into a TV and play the video, but not on the computer. I was using a USB, and perhaps that is my problem. It seems odd to me that the Sony camcorder will not transfer sound through the USB, but the Sony digital camera that I recorded an mpeg on will. If you have any other thoughts, I would be grateful.

Well, thats all to do with whether the company want to pay the very high costs
of certifying the driver to Microsoft. A lot of companies refuse to pay a fee
to the monopoly holder (Microsoft) If a very well known company give you the
driver you can be fairly sure that it is safe to use. Having it certified by
Microsoft does not guarantee that it WILL work. Some of Microsofts driver
instalation packs do not work (Enhanced NVidia) for example.

USB is not meant for the capture of Digital Video. You need an iLink Cable and
card. (iLink = Firewire)

I have a TRV-460 and I was able to import via USB both
sound and audio before I got my firewire card and cable. I
had no problems. I even got it working as a webcam so the
USB cable will stream audio. I find it hard to believe the
460 would do it but not the 350.

Bottom line, as stated time and time again on this board,
firewire is the way to go. I got my cable and card for
about $30 from amazon. But I've seen posts on this site
where people claim cheaper. Well worth the small
investment, especially when you want to keep the quality
of the video.
