mouse pad to react to a double click by tapping on it
rather than pushing its bottons?
thank you very much.

If you mean the mouse touchpad, then you will need to install the correct XP
drivers for it.

Check the manufacturers web site for updated software. If you need to find
what mouse pad you have; download and install the free System Information
utility Aida32.

Usually by using it to position the arrow, then tapping twice?

If that doesn't work, then you need to load proper drivers.
