Mouse Cursor keeps disapearing

While typing on my Gateway Notebook, from time to time, the cursor will
just disappear from the visible screen. It seems to dive to the top
left or lower portion of the window - almost as though something told it
to go elsewhere.

By wiggling the mouse or tapping it on the mouse pad it will show up again.

Is there any setting to make the mouse stay on top where it is visible.

Thanks

Is it an optical mouse?
Check the pad. Most of this type require some textured surface (not smooth
or glassy). The Microsoft Basic optical mouse is famous for this quirk.

Device conflict?
You may have to disable the touch pad mouse while using a USB, IR, or
Bluetooth device.
