mouse issue

When I open system my mouse works fine, but when I'm on line ( for over 10
minutes or so) with a customer service agent doing a chat session to correct
a problem (unrelated) the mouse starts to go haywire and continues to do so
even after I'm off line. I have to re-boot after waiting a few minutes.
This is a problem because I can't do what the tech. is asking me to do!
win xp
mouse is MS wheel mouse optical (not wireless).

Please note re: mouse issue...it seems that my mouse is haywire right now
