Mouse drivers won't install

B

Bob_Loblaw

WinXP SP2
I can't install drivers for my Intellimouse Explorer 3. I keep getting
"Error 1714, older version of Microsoft Intellipoint 5.5 cannot be
removed".
I have gone into "remove hardware" and removed all references to any mouse,
gone into the registry and deleted all references to intellipoint, tried
uninstalling mouse in device manager, searched web and newsgroups.
My mouse now just shows up as a PS\2 compatible mouse.
Any help would be appreciated.

Hello Bob; hope this helps. It is important and I will assume you have
read your install instructions that came with the Intellimouse Explorer
3? You may already know, that most USB and PS2 software for the devices
most be install first then plug the mouse. With USB the install
application will most likely inform you when to plug the mouse in.
Please read this article on how to install
http://support.microsoft.com/?scid=kb;en-us;258785 for additional
information.
I recommend uninstalling Microsoft Intellipoint 5.5 first before
installing Intellimouse Explorer 3 this should solve your error. Also
run a registry cleaner http://www.ccleaner.com/ after you uninstall
Microsoft Intellipoint 5.5 and before you install Intellimouse Explorer
3 to clean up any left over .dll file or what not.
