XP-Mouse Problem

I have WinXP Home using MS Intellimouse Optical USB mouse. Mouse works for
a while then stops. I get message that USB device is not recognized by
Windows. I can disconnect / connect mouse and the problem is gone for a
while, but keeps coming back. I have uninstalled/reinstalled Intellipoint
4.0 software but the problem remains. Can anyone suggest a solution?

You will have to obtain all of the updated drivers for the usb package. I do not know if you are using a board usb or an external usb package. I went through this and updated all drivers and the problem went away. BEAR in mind I am running XP proffesional not XP Home

I appreciate your response, however I am sort of new at this type of thing.
My PC is an E-machines unit with a 2.0G processor, 1GB ram and a total of 4
USB ports are built into the system (2 back, 2 front). I have tried
connecting to each port, but always with the same result. I ran Belarc
Advisor and it shows that I have a TriGem Computer board (no model listed)
also under USB it shows Intel 82801 BA/BAM USB universal USB controller -
2442 & 2444. Will any of this information help you to elaborate on your
answer, if you care to? I have all the WinXP updates already installed.
Any further guidance would be appreciated.

Thanks,
J Stewart

Would you please let me know where to get the updated drivers for the usb package. The manufacturer of my PC already walked me through the steps to upgrade the "bios" but it did not help. Your reply is appreciated. Thank you.
