microsoft intellipoint explorer 3.0 mouse turning on and off + usb device not recognized

I have had my mouse for a while, but at one point is started glitching:
turning on and off while leaving an icon message " usb device not
recognized"
after searching the web installing lastest microsoft drivers and trying
different solutions i had one thing work

that is installing intelipoint software that supports intellipoint
explorer 3.0

this is the link to the IntelliPoint 4.12 Mouse Software for Windows
Me, 98, and NT 4.0
..(this works with windows XP pro and make sure to install this one and
not any newer versions, as they do not support the 3.0 version of
intellimouse explorer)

intellipoint is up to version 5.5, BUT it may not support your specific
mouse, as they do occasionally drop older mice from the list. check here
for the one you should run:
