USB Device not Recognized....!!

Hi....

For some reason all of a sudden my computer stopped recognizing any USB
device that is a 2.0....My keyboard and mouse work (not 2.0)....my printer
Ipod and even the flash drive is not recognized ...and when I go to device
manager it is listed as an unknown device...anybody has any ideas about
this.... "One of the usb devices attached to this computer has malfunctioned
and windows can't recongnize it" this is the error message I get....I have
WinXP pro SP3...if this helps.....I tried installing and reinstalling the USB
hubs...however, after restating my system I still get the same message....I
have a ASUS P4S800D-X motherboard....all he USB slots work with the mouse and
the keyboard....Also, when I plug in the printer behind my keyboard (has 2
usb ports) it recognizes it....can anybody please help me with this.......

This sounds remarkably as though the Enhanced Host Communication Interface
port has failed. This is the host interface responsible for high speed USB
communication (what most people refer to as USB2). USB1 continues to work
correctly because these devices are internally connected to a physically
different port. Since I assume that your USB ports are part of your
motherboard, repair of these is beyond your capabilities short of replacing
the whole motherboard.

If you do not wish to replace the motherboard with all the aggravation this
may entail and if you have a spare PCI or PCI-X slot, then an add in USB
card is not expensive.

hm...ok I'll just replace it...but what causes this problem to occur..??
