hi,
i just reformated my hard drive and the modem driver
doesnt want to install from the windows xp disk. i dont
remember the name of the modem either so i cant just go
to the website and download it the driver. is there any
way that i can get some help on this? does microsoft have
a program to download that will automatically install the
driver? please help!

You say that you do not know the make of your modem. Is the make not
indicated in the 'Device Manager'?

You can try autohardware detect, but if it doesn't find the correct
make/model, or if it does and the driver just won't load from your CD,
then you will HAVE to find out the make/model (you didn't throw away
the manual now did you?) and get the drivers that way.

There is no easy way out.

Download Aida32 (Google for the address) and install it. It will show
you the hardware installed on your system, and a lot more. It's a free
utility. Obviously, you'll have to download Aida32 on a computer with
Internet access! Otherwise, open up your case, carefully remove the
modem, and try and figure out what it is. Aida32 is a lot easier.

do a search on the web and download and run Aida32. this will tell which
modem you have installed
