Modem will not answer

I have a Dell 8200 that came with a Dell supplied modem:
Conexant HSF V92 56K RTAD Speakerphone PCI Modem. I use
only the Windows XP Fax Service and have successfully sent
faxes many times.

I wanted to set it up to auto-receive and have tried all
the settings that I could find (even those listed in MS
articles) but still the modem will not answer when I dial
the number.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

To configure your modem to auto-receive, just invoke the fax configuration
wizard and check the option to answer automatically after <n> rings.

You could try specifying what the fax service should do if after it
automatically receives a fax. For instance store it ina specific folder.
This way you will atleast be able to figure out if faxes are being received
or not.
