I cannot send or receive a Fax using Windows Fax
Services. I am running XP (Home Edition) & have a DSL
line.

In the Fax Configuration dialog, I listed my telephone #
as the Fax #. I chose the Modem which came with my Dell
PC (Conexant SmartHSR V92 56K DF PCI Modem) as my Fax
Device; & enabled "Send", "Receive"; & "Manual Answer."
My TSID is "Fax." My CSID is "Fax" (these were my only
choices, highlighted as I went through the Wizard.) I
didn't choose any Routing Options, as storing successful
incoming Faxes' in the Inbox is fine with me.

For sending, I created a Test Fax document in Publisher;
& chose Fax in the printer dialog, which opened the Send
Fax Wizard. I did not select a Cover Page; & chose "Now"
& "Normal" as my Schedule priorities. When I attempt to
send the Fax; & I always get the message that there
is "No Dial Tone", regardless of the time of day (or
whether or not the fax machine I'm sending to is on or
off.)

Incoming faxes' are always equally unsuccessful. The
message is the same: "No Dial Tone", even though I
select "Receive a fax now..." when I know the fax is
being sent.

What am I doing wrong?

Is it at all possible to send & receive faxes' with DSL?

Please help.

Thanks,

Have you got a spliter on your fax machine? I hd to put
one on it when I went to DSL. Picked it up at Radio
Shack.

Er, no. You can neither send nor receive because faxing uses phone lines.
Both sending - and receiving require the use of an analogue fax modem.
