Running a Dell 4100 with 40G with %50 used after upgrade to XP Home in
November. 512 RAM, IE6, SP2. I have a Fax program Called Phone Tools. Belarc
says it is version 2.17. The last fax I sent was Decembr 10 and it worked
fine. Yesterday I tried to send a fax and when I opened the program a small
window indicated it was in the fax recieve mode and that modem manager was
disabled. Ran modem helper and it seemed to indicate the modem needed to be
re-installed and asked for the modem helper disk from Dell. I did all that
and it said wait it may take a few minutes. After a few games of solitaire I
got the clue that it wasn't working. One time I got a message the port may
not be enabled. Went through the device manager bit and evything was reported
as working properly. Also checked the phone lines. I have comcast so I don't
use the modem for any thing else. When I close the fax program a window opens
and says releasing modem??? I can find no modem manager on this computer.
Using a Conexant HCF V90 56K RTAD Speakerphone PCI Modem.

Maybe something has gone wrong with your modem.
