microsoft word crashes

whenever i go to select an icon from the standard and
formatting tool bars, word crashes. I have tried
disabling these tool bars but word still continues to
crash


somebody please help

Grab the WORD disk, stick it into the CD drive and choose "repair
install". As Chris notes, the
news://msnews.microsoft.public.word.application.errors

group and others may have the best info.

Hi Bill,

Do a search for NORMAL.DOT.

Rename it -- or if you find more than one, each one -- to NORMAL.BAK. Then
launch Word again, and see what happens.

If you do a Word repair, the existing, possibly corrupt, NORMAL.DOT will not
be replaced. But Word will create a brand new NORMAL.DOT if it cannot find
one.
