Microsoft Windows Installer 3.1
I know this has bee covered many times before, but my problem is that the
automatic update downloaded it and when I try to install it I get the message
- The following updates were not installed Microsoft Windows Installer 3.1 -
and the Windows Update Icon reappears in the task bar and no matter how many
times I try to install it the same thing happens.
How can I delete this update from the system?

Don, what version is your msi.dll? Ever since the original msi.dll was
publish through WU in late 2006 or early 2007, if forget which, it was
later updated in June in the following KB:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/939273

Try and get that KB fix to see if it helps.

I tried that, but the installer is still trying to install and fails, then
the update icon returns to the task bar.
