Microsoft Updates wont install

I cannot get updates to install.
The 2 that are failing are:

Microsoft Windows Installer 3.1
Windows Genuine Advantage Validation Tool (KB892130)

I have downloaded them and tried installing them about 5 times.
I have trawled the MS websites but cannot find a solution.
Can anyone help.
