microphone won't work after reinstall

Hi,
My computer got a virus that really messed it up, so I
did a destructive recovery and formated everything on the
user portion of the HD. I have an HP by the way. Ever
since then I can't record anything using the mike. Its
plugged it and everything and I have pretty much played
around with every single option in Volume Control. Any
suggestions?

Check to see if your sound card has all the drivers installed properly in
device manager.
