Microsoft Won't Work After Reinstall

Hi,
My computer got a virus that really messed it up, so I
did a destructive recovery and formated everything on the
user portion of the HD. I have an HP by the way. Ever
since then I can't record anything using the mike. Its
plugged it and everything and I have pretty much played
around with every single option in Volume Control.
Everything is fine in my device manager. I have an HP
with an audio chip built on the motherboard. It is a VIA
AC'97. I thought updating it would fix it so I went to
Windows Update but to no avail. Any suggestions?
Thanks

My warrenty expired with them... I can check if they
still give free support. Doubt it. Thanks anyway.

Getting updated drivers from www.hp.com doesn't depend on warranty ...
they make them available for download. Navigate to the portion of their
web site where your machine is supported and see what's available.
