Messages when PC is shutting down

I know this is vague but I thought I would give it a shot anyway. Here is
what happens on an infrequent basis when my PC is shutting down.
1. A brief message that a program is ending flashes on the screen
2. Then I get this error message:
"The Instruction "0x0030-007b" could not be read"
"Click OK to terminate" (It terminates even if I don't do anything)
3. Then the PC shuts off
4. After the above occurs and I reboot, I get:
"Generic Host Process for Win32 Services encountered a problem and needed to
close"
After that everything seems to work normal????
What is going on? It didn't use to do this.
Thanks for any help., TomC

Tom,
Oddly enough, something just like this happened to me.
I tracked down the problem to the Security Center.
To solve the problem for me is I disabled the Security Center. Rebooted
twice. Then restarted the Security Center on automatic. Rebooted twice.

I have SP2 and only know of the way to correct the problem using SP2
procedures.
1) Go to Control Panel. Go to Administrative Tools. Open Services.
2) Scroll down to Security Center and right click. Under All Tasks click on
Stop.
3) Right click again and select properties. Under start up type select
Disabled. Then hit Apply.
4) Reboot twice. The first reboot initiates the new configuration. The
second reboot proves if the problem still occures. It shouldn't.
5) Place the Disabled back to Automatic. Then start the Security Center.
6) Again reboot twice for the same reasons given in #4. The problem should
be gone. If not, repeate this process for other services that involve the
Internet. example: Firewall, Server, etc.

Let me know how things went.

Black Wolf's message could be the solution. If not, it's
probably, either 1) a program that you start infrequently
(not every time you use the computer, or 2) a program that
starts automatically, but only has a problem once in
awhile.

Information I've seen indicates this may be either an old
HP printer/scanner program or a Norton anti-virus program
component that's causing the problem.

I would track it down systematically: Use MSCONFIG to
disable a single program on the Startup tab that starts
automatically for a few days and then observe the results -
you'll either have the problem again or you won't. If
you do, turn the first program back on and select another
one to prevent it from autostarting. Again, observe the
results.

If you don't know how to use MSCONFIG, search for MSCONFIG
on Google and you'll find several quickie tutorials (it's
fairly simple).

Do NOT disable your anti-virus program - it is somewhat
unlikely that the anti-virus program is causing the
problem, though not impossible. In any event, you can
temporarily disable it last, if necessary.

Good Luck !

I'm trying Black Wolf's suggestion. I don't have a HP scanner, so it must be
my Norton System Works. I'll wait and try your suggestion if Plan A doesn't
work. Thanks for replying.

Thanks very much for replying. I did what you suggested and now time will
tell. I almost didn't ask for help, because I thought "how could anyone tell
me what to do in this case?". I was very fortunate that you had already
experienced this problem so I am very, very appreciative for your suggestion.
I mess this thing up enough and I hate it when I get problems that I didn't
create.
Thanks again, TomC

Black Wolf,
I received the error again. I then tried to follow your instructions about
"do the same process for other services that involve the Internet and I did
do that for the MS Firewall, but the Server wouldn't let me do it - server in
use? Anyway, what other Internet services should I do it to?
Strangly enough, I believe if I get this problem more often than not when I
visit this website. I am using the Webroot Spy Sweeper. TomC

Tom,
Let me tell you how I tracked down my problem. Maybe It'll help you, or at
least help somebody who is trying to help you.
First, I noticed the problem. Then when I booted in diagnostic mode, I seen
that the problem went away. Then one at a time, I started programs and
services I knew I would need to correct the problem.
When I started the security center, It tried to convince me to buy a $19.95
a month service that would protect my computer. And the problem started again
after several reboots.
I use a cheep $9.95 dial-up connection. If I need anything else to stay
connected to the Internet, I will start walking to my local library everyday.
I just couldn't imagine MS trying to force me into paying extra money just to
use the Internet.
So, I did one other step I didn't list. This is because I have my computer
set to make check points for system restore everytime I start it. And some
people fail to even have system restore turned on and properly setup on their
computers. I deleted the advertisement files and rolled back to the beginning
of the day. I then went through the procedure I outlined for you.
The website that I thought downloaded that "advertisement," I placed into my
blocked url file. That "advertisement" file was an XML file and I don't think
for the most part that anti-virus software would have picked up the down load
of it.
I hope this answers more questions than it causes.
