tcsd_win32.exe error when shutting down Windows

P

Paul (Bornival)

Hi,

Each time I shut windows, I get an error message :

tcsd_win32.exe ... Instructions could not be "written" ...

If I click OK, the computer shots down normally.

This has appeared after I made a series of updates. I ran CCleaner but it
did not solve the problem. I see contradictory statements on various forums.

What is tcsd_win32.exe and is it an important part of Windows or a program I
can get rid of ? If it cannot be removed, what should I do not to see this
error message again ?

Have a look on Google. It gives me almost 4,000 hits for "tcsd_win32.exe".

Thank you for your fast reply, but as I mentionned, I did indeed find a
number of posts on various forums but they are contradictory. Some say it is
an important part of Windows, some other say it muts be removed. I was
thinking that a more trustful and "close to Microsoft" information would be
found in this forum. Any idea ?

I don't know this tool myself but there is a simple answer to your question:
Rename the file to tcsd_win32.bad, then watch what happens. Since it is not
a Windows key file, Windows will keep on running. Perhaps something else
won't work, perhaps there will be no change. You can easily rename it again
later on if there is a problem.

The source of the file I would imagine is one of the products described in
this link:
http://www.ntru.com/products/index.htm

If your only problem occurs when shutting down try the suggestion, which
follows.

Download and install the User Profile Hive Cleanup Service
Download details: User Profile Hive Cleanup Service
http://snipurl.com/5b61

UPHClean v1.6d readme.txt
http://snipurl.com/ko8m

Hope this helps.

It seems to be good piece of information. However, when trying to access the
snipurl.com web site, my ZoneAlarm stops me by telling this might be a spy
site... What about that ?

Misreporting by Zone Alarm. Send Zone Labs the link and ask them about it.

This is the longer link for the download;
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...6D-8912-4E18-B570-42470E2F3582&displaylang=en

The earlier link was created some time ago. This is a more current version.
What does Zone Alarm make of this new link as below:
http://snurl.com/g79q8 [www_microsoft_com]

What other anti-virus and anti-spyware software is installed?

Hi,

Thank you for you asnwer. I downloaded the program using the new link (no
ZA alert) and installedi it. But it did NOt solve the problem. I checked
that the service uphclean was running (it was).

What could I do ? It is not a major issues since waiting for a while make
the alert to disappeat (or clicking OK makes it getting away immediatly).
Yet, I wonder what this all means...

Who owns the computer? You or your employer?

Have you looked at the programmes in Add / Remove Programs. You need to
identify the programme. The software company provides some "sneeky" types of
software", which might be hidden away.

Another way to research could be Autoruns.

To identify what loads when you boot use Autoruns (freeware from Microsoft).

http://www.microsoft.com/technet/sysinternals/ProcessesAndThreads/Autoruns.mspx

With Autoruns you can uncheck an item, which disables it from
starting,or you can right click an item and then delete it. If you
uncheck youcan recheck to re-enable the item. It is a much safer
approach than editing the Registry and better than using msconfig..
Another useful feature of the programme is that you can right click an
item and select Search Online to get information about the item
selected.

I own the computer.
I'll run "autoruns.mspx" and see if it helps. It won't be before a few days
because I need to concentrate on profesisonal activities in the next days,
but will keep you informed whenever possible.
Thank you for your help.
Paul.
