Message when PC is shutting down

I apologize in advance, but I don't know the procedure for asking follow-up
questions when my previous message is very far down the line. Anyway, I have
follow-up questions on the responses I received from Black Wolf and MGGP on
this subject from my March 4 message that follows:
Here is what happens on an infrequent basis when my PC is shutting down.
1. A brief message that a program is ending flashes on the screen
2. Then I get this error message:
"The Instruction "0x0030-007b" could not be read"
"Click OK to terminate" (It terminates even if I don't do anything)
3. Then the PC shuts off
4. After the above occurs and I reboot, I get:
"Generic Host Process for Win32 Services encountered a problem and needed to
close"

I followed Black Wolf's suggestion with the boot/reboot on Security Center
and Firewall, but couldn't do it on Server (in use), and I got the problem
again. You mentioned other services which involve Internet, but I don't know
what they may be. I didn't mention this before but I am using the software
Webroot Spy Sweeper which may be the culprit.
I then went to the MSCONFIG procedure that MGGP mentioned, and I unchecked a
program and then it rebooted, but came back with a message that I was in
diagnostic mode and must change to Normal startup and when I do this, all the
check marks return????? I must be doing something wrong because I can't take
off a program from my start menu without getting that diagonstic message
every time I boot up. I did reload my HP printer driver.

Thanks for any help I can get, TomC

The message re: msconfig being in diagnostic mode is just a standard
warning. IGNORE IT given you need to disable items.

P.S. I may have been wrong in what I said in previous email. Use "Normal
Startup" and clear the ticks in "Startup" Tab manually one by one.

If you do that it'll put you back in Selective Startup -
that's the normal result of making changes on the Startup
tab (as well as other places).

You can ignore the warning after re-booting that you're in
diagnostic mode.

Just go through the Startup tab one-program-at-a-time and
you will almost certainly be able to determine which
program is causing the trouble . . .

Uncheck one item on the startup (not anti-virus), re-boot,
observe the results, draw conclusions. Repeat as
necessary.

Good Luck !

There are other measures to use:

Check for an option to not having the icon load in the System Tray via the
program(s) in question.

Other options for removal:

Go to Start/Run and type in: msconfig. Go to the Startup Tab and uncheck
accordingly. Then run this script to remove the disabled items from the
registry.
