mdmxsdk reported as ! in device manager

This all started when I bought a new cell phone (well it started actually
when thieves stole my last one). It is a Seimens CX65V and uses an infrared
connection with my notebook. Well it should use it but I doesn't or should I
say I have got it to do so only on 2-3 occasions and then the software
reports that the phone is not connected.

When trying to use the phone as a modem Windows reports "Error 633: a
hardware device or application is blocking use of the port".
A look through Device Manager (unhiding the view) places an exclamation mark
(!) beside the above "file".
Disabling this "non plug and play" driver does not improve my cell phone
connection issue so I'm still looking for answers there.... feel free.

So I got busy and decided maybe its time to tidy up the computer and install
SP2 (its a wet and rainy day here and I have a long weekend).
So far found one virus, discovered I have a faulty RAM memory chip (now
awaiting HP to send replacment - seems pretty nice of them) and now have a
few files/drivers to upgrade (including something for the BIOS that suggests
a fix for "known wireless issue" - so fingers crossed I can get the phone
problem sussed).

But I still don't know what mdmxsdk does, why its got an exclamation mark
and how to remedy it (if indeed a remedy is required). A search of
Microsoft fails to find any reference be it knowledge basket or otherwise (no
disrespect Microsoft) and a general (Google) search leaves me with the
impression that this "driver" has something to do with the Conexant Internal
Modem and I now have another copy (I think, very small at a few kb only).
Device Manager acknowledges the fact its not working properly but doesn't
offer the ability to "update driver".

Any ideas people? Would appreciate.

OK got that. Some nice pages that give me a little working knowledge of
device manager. Since posting my issue I have updated several drivers
including the chip bios. So far my phone is recognised and "querying the
modem" via device manager reports several parameters including several
"successful". Fingers crossed this suggests one of my updates has helped.
Interestingly mdmxsdk is no longer reported as ! but another non plug and
play driver is reported as ! (ignorance is bliss per chance?). I guess idle
curiosity makes me want to know what mdmxsdk did but I suspect something to
do with the internal modem (a driver update was installed for that also -
unfortunately it has now turned the speaker on of the modem until I connect -
I liked silence better. Yes I have speaker volume in config set all the way
to the left. Got any quick solution advice for that one?)

Thanks for your help, certainly good to know one can call on the computer
community at large for assistance.

Regards Fud.
