Maxtor OneTouch 4 versus Streets & Trips 2008

I am having a problem with my new Maxtor OneTouch 4 500 gig external drive
and my Streets & Trips 2008 program. When the Maxtor is installed and I try
to open Streets & Trips, I get a blue screen shut down. The problem does not
occur when the Maxtor is disconnected. After the shutdown and restart, I
have to contact Microsoft support to get the patch to reactiviate Streets &
Trips. S&T is the only program that the shutdown occurs with.

I am running XP with SP3 and all updates. I initially installed the Maxtor
Manager program when the HD was installed. However, after numerous
uninstalls and reinstalls, I finally uninstalled it. I am currently using
the Acronis True Image Home 2009 as my backup program and it works fine. The
external drive has been partitioned into one primary and for logical
partitions and everything works fine, except for the Streets & Trips program.

When the machine restarts, I get the following Error Signature:
BCCode: 100000d1 BCP1: B5A366E6 BCP2: 00000002 BCP3: 00000000 BCP4:
B5A366E6 OSVer: 5_1_2600 SP: 3_0 Product: 768_1.

I have submitted three support requests to Seagate/Maxtor. One of the
requests is marked as solved, but they have not given me a solution. When I
called Maxtor support, their only suggestion was to uninstall the Manager
program and reinstall it from the Seagate/Maxtor web site. No help there. A
call to Microsoft support resulted in being told it wasn't a problem with S&T
and Maxtor would have to solve the problem.

Does anyone have any suggestions about how to solve this problem?

Streets and Trips requires a data disk, usually the CD with data on it.
Could your Maxtor drive be getting the same drive letter as the S&T programs thinks is the data
files?
Can you reassign your Maxtor drive a permanent drive letter, like Z?

The S & T 2008 that I have does not require a data disk. It is fully loaded
on the C-drive. There is no conflict between the drives. Each has been
assigned and is identified by Windows as separate drives, including the
partitions on the Maxtor.
