Hi,

I have the Maxtor OneTouch III Mini Edition USB drive.

It was working fine before, but now my Vista Ultimate finds the device but
no driver, when I try to install the driver it says that there is no driver.

What can I do to solve the problem ?

Maxtor 3 and Vista are just barely compatible.
[You/I] can't use any of the copy synch software on the Maxtor installation
disk, trying that is guaranteed BSOD, but Vista can and does recognize the
existence of the drive, and treats it as a drive, once you format it NTFS.
I'm speaking about a Maxtor one touch 3 USB external. Not a lot of diff in this
and the mini.
I can only use the drivers. And I have to re-install the drivers often because
of the minor incompatibility.
A real slow boot is almost a guarantee that if I want to use N: it won't be
there until I re-install the driver. But once it's installed from the CD,just
reinstall from 'device manager' you'll probably see a yellow warning or red
flag. Then just go to that option most likely under 'Universal serial bus
controllers'. Mine is one of the 3 'USB Mass storage device's listed. Then hit
properties, [or scan for hardware changes], update driver software, browse my
computer for driver software, I use 'pick from a list on my computer', And here
it shows me 'USB Mass storage device'. Select it and hit next. or 1st time,
install from your mini CD with 'have disk'.

If the drivers already on your drive, scan for hardware changes [slower than
bypassing that step] can fix it. Not to say the driver won't disappear with
age. I can't explain it, but I had to reinstall encarta, and my HP disk
yesterday. It's been months since either was installed. But both need to be
re-installed to fix missing DLL's.

The Maxtor also thinks it's a TV. I have a USB TV installed also.
I suppose without the TV, it'd think it was a scanner/printer/copier.
Or a mouse..

I bought a Maxtor III just because I wanted an external drive. It was quite
difficult to get rid of the junk that came with it. It seems you can't buy
anything now that doesn't have bundled gizmos nobody could possibly ever
want.

It's worse than trying to buy a telephone to telephone with.

What's the use of backup software that only works with a particular drive
when nobody in their right mind would buy a second one?

More seriously, there is a serious problem for the longevity of our family
photos. My future grandchildren (well, great-grandchildren) will probably
never know what I looked like.
