logging on

When I boot my computer....when it comes to the welcome
screen....it tells me that I have x amount of email.
Consequently...when I opem msn messenger...or hotmail...I
get a pop up that...I am being signed off because I am
logged into another location. Is it Windows that is
checking for mail somehow?...and fooling messenger and
hotmail that I am logged in someplace else?? How can I
shut off windows from checking my hotmail for me...if that
is the case.
