Hi Carolina. I get much the same but I only use Outlook express so it might
not apply, the log in screen shows X messages for me but they're only ones
that came earlier that I might have just glanced at in the view bit of OE's
window but didn't actually open so they didn't get marked as read -
presumably Windows regards unread mail in your box as new. (I don't use the
automatically mark as read fiunction in OE because leaving their headers in
the list in bold type makes it easy for me to find them again later to look
at properly).

Hi Blondie :)

Go to the following website and download the free TweakUI program from
Microsoft. Open the program and select the Logon / Unread Mail menu item.
Remove the check mark from the check box there. All gone.

TweakUI is one of the Free Power toys for XP.

Use TweakUI - one of the XP Powertoys from (if you have installed XP
SP1)
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/pro/downloads/powertoys.asp

If you have not installed SP1, the earlier version can be found at
http://download.microsoft.com/download/whistler/Install/2/WXP/EN-US/TweakUiPowertoySetup.exe

Once installed you will find it in Start - All Programs - Powertoys for
Windows XP

Its Repair includes 'Repair Unread Mail count', but I would suggest
using its Logon - Unread Mail, and unchecking the box so as to disable
the matter
