Local File Pop-ups

I am trying to find out how to prevent active-x warning pop-ups with IE 6
when accessing a local file, such as,

C:\Program Files\EPSON\guide\c86_e\wwhelp\wwhimpl\js\html\wwhelp.htm

Every time IE starts and loads this file, I get an active-x pop-up warning.
I have tried to figure out a pattern that would be acceptable to the pop-up
manager, but have had no luck there either.

I know this might not be the appropriate group. However, the ones I looked
at that might be about IE are full of spam and porn. If someone has a
solution, I would appreciate their input. If someone knows of a more
appropriate group. I will post my question there.

All usenet groups are subject to their share of spam/porn but
microsoft.public.windows.inetexplorer was OK the last time I used it ...
certainly not "full of spam and porn".

I'm afraid you won't get much satisfaction though (I didn't when I
posted). I presume you have AX turned off in IE's security options.
Unfortunately, when you do that, IE thinks it's appropriate to warn you
that AX is turned off each and every time that it encounters an AX
object .... about every other page on average. Nor is the window one of
those with a "check here if you don't want to see this again" boxes.
There's apparently no way to turn it off: you're stuck with it. It makes
no difference whether the page is local or remote if it has an
associated AX object.

If you dig around in a Google search you'll find people have been
complaining about this for years (with some justification because it is
*very* annoying and unnecessary). MS hasn't seen fit to offer a fix though.

If you do ask the question in an IE group, make sure the people there
understand that you are talking about the IE vesion from Win2K. Posters
there are notoriously bad for failing to state which OS they are using,
assuming that everyone uses the same OS as they do (usually XP) and
assuming that all versions of IE6 are equal (they're not).
The IE version that installs with XP is different in a number of
respects from that which installs with Win2K and I understand that the
AX window problem is fixed in that version.
