Active X pop-up

M

MapleE.

Hi:
Every once awhile, a rectangular box popping-up in the middle of the screen,
as follow, below,

"Active X, Click to activate program,
OK

Also, whenever I click, 'OK,' nothing happens and every five minutes, this
warning appears again.

Wonder what is this 'Warning,' .... Active X?

How to get rid of this warning, pop-up?

Thanks for your help in advance.

Here another thought, but please don't apply it if you are not sure it does
apply to your situation:
Internet Explorer ActiveX update

Compatibility Patch for Internet Explorer for Windows XP Service Pack 2

Hi nass:
Thanks for the responses and helpful web-sites.

This occurring ONLY e-Bay site, ...but, not all eBay sites.
Only one particular seller doing this.
It appears to me that this seller is an expert on the computer,
then he seems to know VERY well how to manupulate the computer and
such. At first, I thought this is Spam or Pop-up, ... but again it isn't.

Wonder why this, Active-X popping-up?

In terms to download, ... I am a bit hesitant, because this, pop-up
showing up ONLY when I visit a particular eBay, specifically only one
individual. It's easy to say, to not visit eBay, but once awhile I love to
buy some stuff.

Is there any good remedy on this?

Thanks again,

As a rule, I don't generally click on anything that pop-s up without any
warning unless I'm expecting it. Not a good idea.

Hi MapleE,
I think this seller is using a Shop Template built with Flash or another
applet with Activex to render His/Her Images to Display their Goods.
Most of the Time the ActiveX is useless ad badly Programmed, so don't
install ActiveX from any website unless it is secured or from MS.
Scan your computer for malwares and Viruses and do the following to see what
Plug-Ins installed on your Browser:
1... First, try to clean up your caches, Internet files and delete cookies
by doing this:
Click Start >> Control Panel >> Double click Network and Internet
Connections >> Double click Internet Options.
On the IE properties windows you will see these Taps:
General | Security | Privacy | Content | Connections | Programs |
Advanced
Under General Tab clear your History, Internet Files and Cookies.
Then click on Advanced tab and scroll down to under the Browsing Option:
[&] Browsing
[ ] Enable Third-Party browser extensions (Req Rest) uncheck this box.
Then click on Programs Tab and click Manage Add-Ons and Disable the Plug-Ins
for any suspicious one here.
Also you can click on General Tab and click Settings the View Objects and
you will see the Activex Remove it from there.

For spywares download these software and update their definitions and run a
scan:
http://www.lavasof.com
http://www.safer-networking.org

I will contact The Seller or ebay Support community and discuss this with
them as ebay have regulations and rules applied to protect users ( I think?),
specially with Java and ActiveX thingy.
HTH.

Hi:
Thanks for the responses. I truly appreciate time you spent to help me out
on this regard.

One of eBay sites is 'used Foot-ball VHS Video' on which one of my family
members has
a great interest. This individual is a long-time seller, since 2003, then
he KNOWS very well
about eBay policy, rules and such, ... I believe.

I told him to NOT visit his eBay site which he, too agreed. Because, we,
all are never close to
computer-expert, not to mention in terms to computer tech. dept.

Other than that, the computer working very well, including all eBay sites.

Thanks again,

You are welcome, thanks for the feedback, to be sure there is nothing
residing on your Hard drive perform a Disk Clean Up to clear the junk left
from any such software if any.
To do that Double click My Computer then Right click on (C:\) and select
properties. On the system properties under general click on Disk clean Up.
HTH.

Hi nass:
Thanks for the helpful response.

I did Disk Clean up and Virus check before posting and asking
on this board. I found both were perfectly OK, for that I am very
thanksful. The computer running real well as if it's a brand new,
although the PC is about 5-6 years old with 512 MB and 50 G, minus
USBs. It's a sort of 'dianasour,' on today's standard.

Thanks again,
